The Interreg MED Social&Creative community focuses on industrial transformation of the cultural and creative sector to create added value for the entire economy

Sustainable growth is stronger when CCS contaminates other industries

[#SCICAMP2021 - Zoom event, 26 November 2021] - CCS is one of the fastest rebounding sector in Europe confirming it is key in pushing development, innovation and sustainable growth despite last year’s Pandemic crises. This is what has been pointed out in the 2nd Innovation Camp organized by Apulia Region and Arti, the Regional Strategic Agency for Technology and innovation and focused on industrial transformation, that is how Culture can contribute to innovating traditional economic sectors and foster industrial transformation.

The Camp gathered high level experts of cross-sector transformations such as Fabrizio Panozzo of Ca 'Foscari University in Venice, widely considered a "guru" in the field of creative managerial culture, and Flavia Marzano, former member of the Council Committee for Innovation of Rome, now DigiComp and Formez PA consultant. The Zoom event also showcased some of the most successful European experiences of “transversal innovation” of how contaminations between culture, creativity and innovation have been effectively implemented in traditional sectors such as healthcare, performing arts or small manufactory districts. From the rehabilitative potential of digital gaming, the core business of Bari-based Grifo Multimedia, to the flourishing of music schools in the difficult neighborhoods of Barcelona promoted by OnStage project and replicated across Europe and to the contamination between culture and old markets in the Cultural District of the Basque Country: ​​when creativity and culture are integrated into transformation processes, they produce more solid economies together with human-centered and sustainable communities.

"We should firstly take the CCSs out of their isolation,n since creativity and culture do not belong to a few: culture is not synonymous of different and far, thus we need to change our minds first, and find new approaches to answer to today’s challenges with creativity”, professor Panozzo said. “We have to overcome the concept of cultural and creative industry as a sector tout court, blurring the boundaries and encouraging the contamination and fusion between the cultural and industrial dimensions”.

"Creativity is something extremely pervasive, just like technology: the challenge is, therefore, to create the conditions so that it can trigger a disruptive transformation, capable of strengthening the competitiveness of the territories thanks to the definition of ad hoc policies - concluded Marco Di Ciano, responsible for research and innovation at InnovaPuglia. The path that the Social&Creative project is following is to identify the most significant experiences and the most mature results of the projects that are part of the Community of Mediterranean creatives and bring them to the attention of political decision-makers, facilitating their adoption in similar territories and contexts, also thanks to the sharing of concrete examples of experimentation with innovative policies ".
